Sanjeev Bhaskar is an actor, writer and presenter. He first came to notice in the ground breaking television comedy sketch show Goodness Gracious Me, which he co-created, and the Emmy Award-winning comedy The Kumars at Number 42 (both BBC), which he created, wrote and acted in and for which he was BAFTA nominated. He was the lead character in three series of The Indian Doctor (BBC) and six series of the ongoing crime drama Unforgotten (ITV); the fifth series of which was one of the Top 10 most watched shows of 2023 on UK terrestrial television. He can currently be seen in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman (Netflix). His book India with Sanjeev Bhaskar, based on his BBC documentary series of the same name, was a Sunday Times bestseller. Sanjeev’s movie credits include Notting Hill, Paddington 2 and Yesterday. On stage, Sanjeev has appeared in the West End in Art (formerly The Whitehall Theatre), as King Arthur in the Monty Python based musical Spamalot (The Palace Theatre) and Dinner With Sadaam (Menier Chocolate Factory).
His personal claims to fame are having a Number One in the pop charts with Spirit in the Sky with Gareth Gates in 2003 and adding the word ‘chuddies’ to the OED. Away from stage and screen, Sanjeev is Chancellor of the University of Sussex and also an ambassador for the charity UNICEF.
